Ezoic Earnings: January 2024 Niche Site Income Report

The worst thing about doing income reports for the month of January is that the earnings are always down.

That’s especially true for these reports since Ezoic is the primary monetization and ad RPMs are always atrocious the first month of the year, regardless of who you use for ads.

Anyways, let’s get ready to dig into these.

As mentioned when I started these monthly updates, I’m publishing these income reports on the last day of each month to get fresh data your way.

Plus, it helps keep me accountable to you…because we all know that I will procrastinate on getting these written up.

Also, I want to remind you that these Ezoic sites of mine are smaller sites, which means these monthly updates should be easier for new site builders to follow along with (as well as those of you who are building sites with limited time).

With these being my lower earning sites, they never really get the priority that they deserve. (understatement of the century)

But still, small amounts of work compound over time.

Note: The sites in this report are only a portion of my portfolio and not the only sites that bring in revenue.

**And as always, I’m an affiliate marketer and this post contains affiliate links, meaning I will be compensated if you make a purchase after clicking on my link.

Site 1: Food/Drink Niche

After seeing some good revenue last month, I took the time to add 10 new posts to this site, all focused on affiliate buying guides.

With those high converting Lasso product boxes working so well, I wanted to put my focus into that with fresh content.

site 1 graph jan 2024

This site saw another traffic drop for the month, which isn’t a normal historical trend for it.

So, the site is still in free fall. Or is it? I had no idea until I looked at Google Analytics –

Analytics site 1 jan24

So, looking at traffic for last four months compared to the previous period, the number of sessions is up 7.2% while the pageviews are down 8.3%.

I still think links are the missing component here.

And I need to get the Growth Cupid Pinterest team working on this site (save 10% with code SKIPBLAST).

Also looks like EPMV was cut in half from December.

And quick reminder, I enabled Humix on this site early in 2023 but didn’t upload any videos – instead I’m only earning from other people’s videos that show up on my site.

Here’s how much this site earned via Humix for the month –

Humix site 1 jan24

So, there is something weird with the Humix earnings for this site.

It’s this –

Humix site 1-2jan24

Do notice something bizarre going on?

It’s the My Videos section. I haven’t uploaded a single video for this site.

It even says zero uploads! So, did I get someone else’s 79 views and $0.03?

Weird, eh?

Anyways, here’s what the overall income for the last 30 days looks like for this site in Big Data Analytics:

site 1 jan2024 big data anlytics
  • Ezoic: $16.89
  • Amazon: $31.21

So, as expected, earnings are down. The traffic loss only compounded that.

The affiliate content on this site is using high converting Lasso product boxes.

And I’ve been using Scalenut (use code FOREVER20 to save 20% after the free trial!) to optimize these articles. You can also use something like Frase for this.

Do note that we have one additional day left in the month, so these numbers are almost complete.

Plus, Ezoic balances are not finalized for ending month until the 4th of the following month. Just an FYI.

Site 2: Religion/Spirituality Niche

I think this site has a lot of potential – it just needs some love instead of the neglect that I’ve been giving it.

So, I added a few new posts and got a lot more saved as drafts.

site 2 graph jan 2024

You’ll notice a traffic drop for this site as well. GA4 shows around 16% drop compared to previous 30 days.

And here’s what the last six months of traffic look for this site –

Analytics site 2 jan24

So, while the traffic is currently down, it’s still apparently getting more in the last 6 months compared to the previous period.

Ideally, it would be still rising, but I know this site needs links and it needs more of a content focus from me.

And I think it will do well on Pinterest. Maybe Facebook. Maybe YouTube if I ever get back to that.

I also still (…yes, still) didn’t get around to making any new videos for this site’s YouTube channel or Humix.

Here’s how much this site earned from Humix with the two videos that I uploaded a early in 2023 –

Humix site 2 jan24

Clearly the Humix data is crazy right now cause you’ll notice that it says my plays are up +465% previous 30 days.

How?

And if that is real, why is the revenue down by almost half?

Humix site 2-1 jan24

Just some odd data.

Here’s what the income for the last 30 days looks like for this site:

Big Data Analytics site 2 jan2024
  • Ezoic: $9.61
  • Amazon: $0.00

Yeah, that’s a big ole drop in revenue. And EPMV dropped by an insane amount. Even for January.

And yeah, I still haven’t gotten any affiliate content up on this site cause it’s just a tricky one with things to promote.

And I used Scalenut (use code FOREVER20 to save 20% after the free trial!) to optimize these articles. You can also use something like Frase for this.

Do note that we have one additional day left in the month, so these numbers are almost complete.

Plus, Ezoic balances are not finalized for ending month until the 4th of the following month. Just an FYI.

Site 3: Food/Drink Niche #2

I love this niche and I love that it has some high priced items that I can promote with those high converting Lasso product boxes.

And I’m stoked that I was able to add 10 new posts to this site.

Okay, so I think traffic is down for this site. At least, that’s what it looks like in Ezoic.

Just a couple hundred visits down though.

site 3 graph jan 2024

This GA4 screenshot shows a crazy spike that didn’t really exist. Likely referral spam fucking up my data.

Analytics

One interesting thing though is that the EPMV didn’t drop by as much with this site.

It’s an evergreen niche, and it doesn’t spike at any particular time of year.

Here’s what the income for the last 30 days looks like for this site:

Big Data Analytics site 3 jan2024
  • Ezoic: $7.32
  • Amazon: $19.10

Another revenue drop, but this one wasn’t too bad for January.

The affiliate content is using high converting Lasso product boxes.

Site 4: Tech/Gaming Niche

This site is no longer on Ezoic.

Site 5: Outdoors Niche

Can you tell that I’ve been seriously neglecting this site?

Just two new posts live for the month.

site 5 graph jan 2024

This traffic is so tragic. And the worst part is that I know why – it’s this thing I wrote about (…. and then two people on my email list did YouTube videos on it afterwards. Always love when people are awesome.)

Anyways, the good news is that traffic is actually up compared to the last 30 days.

Analytics

But the bad news is that it’s still down overall.

Sadness.

Analytics

But I know it needs links. Especially in this niche.

Back to good news, the EPMV didn’t drop all that much for this site.

Here’s what the income for the last 30 days looks like for this site:

Big Data Analytics site 5 jan2024
  • Ezoic: $5.09
  • Amazon: $0.52

More good news, overall earnings are only down a wee bit.

Looking back at that traffic, I wonder why I even have this site on Ezoic right now. A measly five bucks hardly makes it worth it.

May consider removing this one for a while.

The affiliate content on this site is using high converting Lasso product boxes.

Site 6: Gardening Niche

This may be the most tragic site in my entire portfolio.

It was doing amazing when I moved it over to Ezoic.

Then it hit some new highs.

Ever since it’s been chasing new lows though. Worst part? I know it does well on social and I’ve done nothing with it.

Expect that to change soon with the kickass Growth Cupid Pinterest team getting to work on this site in the near future (save 10% with code SKIPBLAST).

site 6 graph jan 2024

Nice to see the traffic is up a wee bit for this one.

Not really sure why that is though. But, hopefully it is a trend that continues.

Here’s what the income for the last 30 days looks like for this site:

Big Data Analytics site 6 jan2024
  • Ezoic: $11.48
  • Amazon: $0.85

So, not as big of a drop as it could have been, which is nice.

Still a drop in revenue and EPMV though.

Sadly this is a downtime for this niche, so not a lot of money to be made. (I think?)

The affiliate content is using high converting Lasso product boxes.

Looking Ahead

If you’re still here wondering if these sites are ever going to recover, then thanks for sticking with me.

I’m confident they will simply because I know how little effort I’ve put in due to the health issues I was having.

As with all of my sites, the best path to those sweet internet monies is having a multi-pronged approach for both traffic and revenue.

Of course that takes more time and resources than most new site builders have…and I recognize that and have purposely been building these sites with that in mind.

But I think it’s about time to take those training wheels off.

Why now? Cause plenty of site owners are in the same spot, with big losses from HCU and other updates.

So, stick around and you’ll learn how I build and grow most sites by doing the same with this batch.

Though I may remove some of these from Ezoic for a while just to declutter the user experience while traffic/revenue is so low.

And quick reminder that I’ll be looking at how these sites performed across the entire year in an upcoming video on my YouTube channel. Subscribe here if you want to see it when I drops.

If you want more details on how I use Ezoic’s Big Data Analytics to form my content strategies, check out this three-part case study.

    • I don’t see anything like that. And you would think it wouldn’t show zero uploads? I assume it’s a weird glitch of some sort.

  1. Shawna,
I actually like your analysis of these negative trends and the conclusions you come up with to bring these sites back to life.
Regarding the Humix issues you described above, I experienced something similar. In the Top Trending videos section of Humix (marked as Third Party) I find videos that are not from me, but shown on my site. That are not that many, but it disturbs the UX as they are not at all related to my topic.
The main money I make with sharing my vidos on other sites.
The number of views (and earnings) dropped in January as well. In December I still enjoyed more than 207k plays. Now in January it dropped to 84k and revenue is down by 75% to just $2.50

Do you experience this Humix behaviour also on your bigger, bread and butter sites?
All the best for your health and have a successful february.

    • Hi Tom,
I only have Humix enabled on these two sites. And I don’t keep sites on Ezoic once they qualify for Mediavine or Raptive. While I like that Ezoic usually earns more than AdSense for low traffic sites, I always tend to see an EPMV/RPM boost once I can move a site to Raptive or Mediavine.

The problem with most earnings coming from plays on other people’s sites is that when their traffic goes down, your plays/revenue go down.

  2. Appreciate your honesty and resilience, especially during the challenging times. Excited to see your sites bounce back as you step up your game! Can’t wait for the upcoming video breakdown. Keep up the great work!
